Isaac Gelston Gray

Born: 1836 - 1906

Ballysallagh Minor, County Down, Ireland

Occupation: Ulster: Royal Irish Constabulary

Victoria: Policeman (Mounted Gold Escort and then first policeman at Coleraine), then a publican, then an auctioneer at Coleraine. He was a member of the first Wannon Shire Council and is to this day the council's longest serving member.

Isaac Gelston Gray had at least 2 brothers and this is beyond doubt. He traveled to Australia with them and his grand daughter said that he often spoke about them by name.

James Gray 1830-1866.
I have 2 certificates for James and his occupation is recorded as a gardener. The witness to James wedding was from Bangor Down.

Archibald Gray 1834-1862.
When Archibald joined the Victorian Police Force in 1860 he gave his occupation as a gardener.

Either James or Archibald was also a member of the Royal Ulster Constabulary before coming to Australia. I cannot find my reference to this so will send later. Both James and Archibald died without issue.

On all marriage and death certificates for Isaac, James and Archibald their mothers name is given as Mary McBride, their father as William Gray. His occupation is once recorded as a watchmaker/jeweler and every other time as farmer.
